SELECTED WORKS BY GIULIANA PINTO

Selected installation, painting, and sound-based works exploring participation, sensory experience, and site-responsive environments.
NIGHT BLOOM
Wood, moss, flowers, water, acrylic paint, fabric, plastic, speaker, sound
Night Bloom is an immersive installation entered by ducking beneath a raised platform and emerging into a darkened interior filled with live flowers and moss. Warm light, humid air, and a layered soundscape surround visitors, creating a sensory environment that feels intimate and otherworldly. The sound piece was composed from field recordings and synthesized audio created by turning flowers into conductive instruments.

the lonely whale
Mixed media installation with sound
Inspired by the story of the 52-hertz whale, The Lonely Whale explores themes of communication, isolation, and unheard messages. Participants listened to a sound piece while writing letters to someone they knew would never receive them, depositing their notes into bottles suspended throughout the installation. Over time, the space filled with thousands of handwritten letters, becoming a collective archive of private reflection.

cloud cassette
Interactive sound installation
Cloud Cassette invites participants to create their own layered soundscapes using cassette tapes of original compositions built from synthesizers and field recordings. Visitors adjust volume and tone across multiple tape players while surrounded by terrariums containing soil, moss, stones, and plants. A looping video of drifting clouds adds a visual rhythm, reinforcing the meditative, atmospheric experience.

love letter to flowers
Video and sound installation
Love Letter to Flowers takes the form of a small VHS library, where participants select tapes containing original video and sound compositions focused on flowers, clouds, and natural elements. Seated at a vintage television with headphones, viewers engage with the work through quiet, deliberate choice. The piece emphasizes intimacy, nostalgia, and focused attention.

SCATTERING

Interactive light and sound installation
Scattering is an interactive light installation that responds to movement both inside the gallery and from the street outside. Motion sensors trigger custom lights suspended from the ceiling, while mirrors on the floor scatter reflections across the space. Created during the pandemic, the work explores connection and presence through indirect, shared interaction.

WINTER RELIEF
Video and sound installation
A projection and sound piece placed in a warm room, created as part of a series designed to release collected sensations of summer, to combat depressive feelings in the dark and cold winter months. The work combines altered field recordings and synthesized sound to evoke memories of summer and warmth. The installation functions as a quiet, restorative environment.

wake up
Video piece
wake up is a video experiment exploring nature through movement. Working collaboratively with a dancer, the piece documents improvised responses to the surrounding landscape, emphasizing bodily awareness and presence. The work reflects an interest in observation, listening, and embodied interaction with place.

PAINTINGS
Acrylic on canvas + Oil on wood
This group of paintings draws from recurring childhood dreams alongside imagined and environmentally charged landscapes. The works explore how early memory, intuition, and internal narratives shape perception and relationship to the natural world. These paintings function both as independent works and as conceptual touchstones for larger installation-based environments.
